Attitude of gratitude : When I first open my eyes. I try not to jump out of bed. I think of one thing that is a blessing in my life. Just one thing I am grateful for that day. It’s me telling my Spirit that regardless of what the day has to offer, regardless of how I am feeling, I choose to focus on the positive. I refuse to allow my feelings to dictate my outcome. And this leads me to tip number 2.

Drink a glass of water : I always have a bottle of water next to me and I drink during the night when I wake up to pee. But I honestly have to make an effort to drink more first thing in the morning. Even before I brush my teeth. It helps wake me up and also I feel like it cleanses my system. I know it’s a bit weird. Water improves your mood. I don’t even know like how scientific that is but it works for me. Try it!

Pray and meditate: I make sure I talk to God. It doesn’t have to be a long one. I usually thank Him for waking me up and I commit the day to Him. I cover my husband and kids with His blood. That gives me confidence that whatever I will face that day I won’t be alone.

Make your bed Mamas! This is a huge one for me believe it or not. It’s not something that comes naturally. Between the two of us, my husband is better at making the bed. But I’ve noticed that when I do, I feel a lot lighter, like I am making a fresh start with a clean bed and room. Know what I mean?
These next ones might seem a bit vain but trust me it is not. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19 our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and so we should take care of it and respect it.

Have a shower: On the days I have a shower early, the rest of my day is much better and I am more upbeat and motivated. Can you relate? Listen, as a stay-at-home mom there have been countless times where I’ve just woken up, jumped out of bed and gotten so busy that I only remember I haven’t showered or eaten at like 5pm. No wonder I feel like poopoo. So shower shower shower. Definitely.

Pick out a nice and comfy outfit. Do I have to explain?
No. 7
Fix your hair and wear light makeup: Or not. You don’t have to wear makeup if that’s not your thing. I think it’s important to get dressed for the day. When you look nice you feel confident, you feel motivated. There is something that clicks in your brain and gets you looking forward to the day and getting things done. And trust me your kids are watching they can tell the difference. When mummy is happy versus when she is miserable and grumpy. You don’t want the memories your kids have of you to be mummy was always frumpy and grumpy. So please make an effort. If not for you, for them.
Disclaimer here: I am not going to pretend that I do all 12 tips consistently every single day. Some days I do better than others. I still have periods where I struggle with depression. I might do none at all and then you know I’m in a really dark place. But by God’s Grace I can say that I’ve learnt to apply these tips to help me snap out of it quicker.

Tackle one task at a time: Multitasking doesn’t mean starting loads of things and not completing any. That only adds to the frustration and the feeling like you are failing. So have a list and work through it one step at a time.
No. 10
Set a timer for every task so you don’t get distracted and dragged into one thing all day.
No. 11
Mummy time: Think about that one thing that always lifts your mood. For some it might be music for others a comedy show or movie on Netflix or for some it could be sleep or speak to a friend. Reading, crocheting/knitting, gardening, colouring, doing puzzles. There is definitely something that makes you relaxed and happy. You can get the kids to nap so you can indulge in that activity.
